Our History

Muslim Association of Canada is a religious, educational, social, charitable and non-profit organization.  It was established in 1997 and its objectives and programs are aimed at the comprehensive educational and spiritual development of the Muslim individual, family and community. Muslim Association of Canada initiated EMAAN in 2002 in Edmonton, Alberta.

EMAAN celebrates the Islamic values and principles that we uphold in all facets of our organization. We strive to inspire in Muslim youth a desire to seek an education that will help to promote our future leaders.

Our Team

Issam Saleh, Chair

Issam Saleh is a school teacher on leave and currently is running his own business in the construction field. MAC board member, Edmonton Islamic Academy board of trustees board member, ECMC board member, community services advisory board member at the city of Edmonton and chair of diversity and inclusion committee.

Angie Teliani, Co-Chair

Angie graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, major in Sociology. Her past work experience included Social Services work and Federal Government Work with Statistics Canada, Justice Canada, and the CRA. Currently she is employed as the Sales & Marketing Manager with Academy Banquets at the Edmonton Islamic Academy.

Walid Haymour, Finance & Sponsorship Chair

Walid has been an employee at the University of Alberta for 26 years and has been involved with EMAAN as the financial committee leader for 6 years. Walid has received many awards recognizing his hard work and incredible involvement in numerous committees and communities.

Kahled Jomha, Database Chair

Kahled Jomha graduated from the University of Alberta with a BSC in Electrical Engineering. He has been on the EMAAN team since 2007.

Hala Assaf, Applications Chair

Hala graduated from the University of Alberta in 2005 with a Bachelor of Education and in 2006 obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. She has been a part of the EMAAN team for the last 2 years on the applications committee. Hala is currently teaching Language Arts and Social Studies at John D. Bracco Junior High School.

Team Support Members

Rabia Sheikh, Marketing & Website Chair

Rabia graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2007 completing her Bachelor in Management. She has been involved with various non profit organizations such as the Alberta Diabetes Foundation, Iana Financial, Toastmasters and the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights.

Alisha Asrary, Marketing

Alisha Asrary was born here in Edmonton and comes from a family of four. She currently works for the Islamic Family & Social Services as their Youth Development Program Coordinator. This is her first time with the EMAAN committee and looks forward to sticking around for awhile.

Maarij Ali, Alumni Chair

Maarij Ali graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelors in Science. He has past volunteer experience with IFSSA, PSA and PCA. Maarij brings to the organization strong marketing and business skills along with extensive knowledge in IT.

Sabira Devjee, Applications

Sabira Devjee  has been involved with Emaan for at least 5 years. She is a teacher with Edmonton Public School Board and has recently completed her Master’s Degree in Education Policy Studies. Her area of interest has been refugee students.
